Iso Tech to implement $450b Project at Taltali, Barguna

To meet the growing demand for energy consumption, the government has decided to set-up 350-MW coal- fired power plant at Taltali Upazila in Barguna district.

Iso Tech Electrification Company Limited in collaboration with Power China Resource Limited will implement the project at a cost of 450 billion US dollar, a power division source said. 

The government has come to this realization that sustainable power supply is a major precondition for socio-economic development as well as improvement of the quality of life of people. Another coal-fired power plant of 350MW is going to be established on the basis of this thought, the source said. 

Referring to the coal-fired power plant project in Barguna, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Md. Tajul Islam, MP told this correspondent that coal- fired power plant goes well all over the world despite negative environment impacts, but at the same time modern technology is capable enough to intervene such environmental hazard. 

Power Division Secretary Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus informed said that the coal-fired power plant located at Taltali Upazila in Barguna district goes on under the monitoring of concerned ministry. The government will back the plant to be ended in due time. 

Regarding coal-fired power plant and its impact on environment, Power Cell Director General Engineer Mohammad Hossain said that the government by considering all respects has decided to set up the 350 -MW coal-fired plant at Taltali Upazila in Barguna district. 

Though the power generation cost varies depending on investment capacity, location, transport and other ingredients, coal-fired power generation cost is less than LNG and other fuels. The company Managing Director Moinul Alam said as per the agreement the construction of the power plant has to be ended within 45 months. 

As a result, we leave no stone unturned to do the related activities with the government necessary support. The space of new employment will be created after finishing the plant. In addition, 3.5 acres land has already been purchased to be rehabilitate the people without their own land who have been living on the land of Bangladesh Water Development Board. 

Referring to the importance of the power plant, Iso Tech Managing Director Moinul Alam said, ‘‘Bangladesh has already been promoted a developing country. In view of this achievement, “We have to be much more proactive to reach the stage of a middle-income country. To implement Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s slogan, “electricity everywhere,” we have made all effort to end the project duly. 

The Iso Tech Company Media Adviser Firoz Chowdhury told the correspondent that a few vested quarters pointing out self-made allegations in order to get their own interest try to stand against the plant and they wish to publish fabricated and false propaganda in the media. We keep the local administration aware of such hazards. It is predicted that the population of the world will reach 10 billion by 2040 and the planet will need up to 30 percent more energy than today. 

As a result, Bangladesh needs to generate more energy to meet the new challenges in the days to come, global innovation index research shows. The government has initiated mega action plan to generate 60 thousand mega watt power plant by 2041 with a view to turning Bangladesh into a improved country. 

In addition, various private coal-fired power plants in collaboration with foreign investment have been allowed to generate power by paying close attention so that negative environment challenges are not occurred, the government concerned sources said. 

Under these circumstances, the government has decided to permit Iso Tech to set-up the plant, power division sources added.
