Godda 1600 MW (Adani) Power Plant

Current Status: Construction

The Godda Coal Power Plant was proposed by Adani Power Limited, a subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Adani Group, in August 2015 during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Bangladesh [1]. The project was initially planned to establish in Paraspani village in Godda but later changed to present site [2]. It will be able to evacuate 1472 MW if the engines generate exactly 1600 MW. To deliver 1496 MW, the power plant has to generate 1626 MW in total. The coal requirement is 7-9 million tonnes as mentioned in Environmental assessment report [1]. According to the Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) signed between Adani Power and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the power plant is supposed to start commercial operation in January 2022. But the date would be delayed as Force Majeure declared by Adani Power and its EPC contractors in the first week of February 2020 due to Coronavirus outbreak [3].
