Accident at Matarbari Coal Power Plant: 2 Workers Died on Spot

A worker of the under construction Matarbari Coal Power Plant at Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar died on spot as an electric pillar fell upon him on Monday (13th July 2020) evening. The other labour who was working on the top of the pillar was severely injured and taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. He also died in the hospital.

Our local representative informed that the deceased was 32 years old young man from Dinajpur and appointed by POSCO Engineering & Construction Company Limited (Engineering Sub-contractor of Sumitomo Corporation).

The accident took place at around 4:00 pm in the Area-12 near the local site office of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), civil engineering contractor for road network.


Another worker was seriously injured and taken Chittagong Medical College Hospital. It is to mention that they had helmet or safety gear and there were no stay wires with the pillar to keep it standing.
