About the Organization

Bangladesh Working Group on External Debt (BWGED) is a flexible civil society forum of progressive activists and organizations from all over Bangladesh. BWGED started its activities as the ‘Working Group on IFIs’. But later, BWGED was expanded to the broader community by changing the phrase to ‘External Debt’ in 2016. The Working Group is currently working to shift from ‘External Debt’ to ‘Ecology and Development’ to include even broader communities in the movement. BWGED works on four thematic areas such as (i) Environment & Climate, (ii) Energy & Power, (iii) Large Infrastructure, and (iv) Water & Agriculture. BWGED has been working for Bangladesh's green and equitable energy transition since 2015.

Working Environment

  • Job Station: Khulna city (70% of the active time), but frequent visits are required (30% of the active time)
  • Report to: Programme Coordinator
  • Coordinate with: Campaign Team, Comms Team, Finance & Admin Officer
  • Supervise: Research Officer, Research Associates
  • Work Days: Saturday - Thursday, except public holidays
  • Working Hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a one-hour lunch break
  • Duration: Two years initially with an option of extension

Responsibilities

  1. Carrying out surveys, feasibility studies, and policy analyses related to the energy sector of Bangladesh.
  2. Analyzing technical data and estimating the potential of generating final energy from Renewable sources.
  3. Reviewing the renewable energy projects' Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA).
  4. Writing and presenting research, study, and program reports
  5. Supporting colleagues for capacity building on just and equitable transition in Bangladesh

Eligibility

  1. Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
  2. At least five (5) years of experience in the field of research or operation of the energy, power, or industrial sector;
  3. Published at least 2 (two) research papers for any reputed organizations, institutions, or international journals;
  4. A clear understanding of data management, analysis, synthesizing, and narrative building;
  5. Basic knowledge of Bangladesh's energy system, particularly the power sector and primary energy supply, including renewable sources.

Job Opportunity: Digital Analyst


The Bangladesh Working Group on External Debt (BWGED) is a flexible forum of civil society organizations and individuals from different areas of Bangladesh. We work to monitor bilateral and multilateral institutions who finance in the sectors of Climate, Energy, Large Infrastructure and Water Resources. 

We focus on the fossil fuel investments in the energy sector of Bangladesh and work for shifting the finance flow not only towards 100% renewables but also respecting human and environmental rights for just and equitable energy access through our Campaign for Sustainable Energy. 

We are looking for 3 (three) Part-time Digital Analyst with experience and ability to analyze, write contents and upload in digital media, e.g. websites, social media sites. This is a six-months position but there is a possibility of extension. 

MAJOR ROLES 
  1. Development and upgradation of the Energy Sector Database of the Bangladesh Working Group on External Debt (BWGED).
  2. Value Chain Analysis of the Energy Sector of Bangladesh focusing on the social, environmental and economic aspects.
  3. Identify the major national and international investors, developers and consultants for the energy sector of Bangladesh.
  4. Writing introductory paragraphs on the energy related institutions and upload those on respective websites and social media.
  5. Formulating key findings, summary presentations and other materials under cooperation with the communication department.

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS 
The Digital Analysts will receive an annual package of negotiable remuneration with other organizational benefits. 

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION 
Bachelor Degree (Computer Science, Development Studies, Environmental Science, ICT, Statistics or any relevant Subjects) from any reputed University. 

EXPERIENCE

BWGED is seeking two personable Energy Campaigners with the experience and ability to organize campaigns environmental and human rights in Bangladesh. It is a part-time 6-month position but there is a possibility of extension.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Communicating state and non-state stakeholders including respective authorities, civil society representatives, private sector, academia, media, service providers related other persons/institutions;
  2. Generating the ideas and preparing the circulars, creative contents for website and social media and campaign materials like banners, festoons, placards and streamers.
  3. Preparing the reports of coordination meetings, roundtables, dialogues and seminars;
  4. Contributing to the innovative research, research findings and compiling the results;
  5. Working closely with the Research and Campaign Team.
